Overview

The Garbaruk 13-Speed Gen 2.0 XPLR Cassette fits SRAM XD freehubs natively, or SRAM XDR freehubs with the use of the included 1.8mm spacer. Garbaruk's cassettes are machined from chromoly steel for durability with the largest cog machined from 7075-T651 aluminum, then color anodized for a beautiful finish. At 10-52T, it is the widest range in Garbaruk's SRAM XPLR line and weighs in at a svelte 343g. The close steps in the high gears help to smoothen cadence, while the 52T cog enables conquering steep climbs.

Why we love it

We love Garbaruk cassettes because they strike a great balance between light weight, durability, beauty, and price.

  • 01The CNC machined chromoly steel cogs provide the durability of steel while being lighter than stamped cogs.
  • 02The color anodized 7075-T651 aluminum alloy big cog reduces weight and adds a gorgeous luster to the drivetrain.
  • 03The range is the widest in Garbaruk's SRAM XPLR line. At a full 10-52T, Garbaruk's famed extended range enables riders to tackle a wider variety of terrain with comfort.
Why it makes the cut. Hammer & Howl only carries parts we believe are among the best in the business. We believe Garbaruk cassettes are a great value among high end cassettes.

  • One 1.8mm spacer for SRAM XDR freehubs

  • One upper pulley bearing cover

Will it fit your bike?

Compatible with

  • SRAM XD and SRAM XDR freehubs
  • SRAM RED XPLR AXS 13-speed derailleur (RD-RED-1E-E1)
  • SRAM Force XPLR AXS 13-speed derailleur (RD-FRC-1E-E1)
  • SRAM Rival XPLR AXS 13-speed derailleur (RD-RIV-1E-E1)
  • SRAM Flattop chains, 12-speed or 13-speed, such as the SRAM RED chain (CN-RED-E1)

Not compatible with

  • Shimano freehubs and drivetrains
  • SRAM Eagle, SRAM Eagle Transmission (T-Type), SRAM XPLR 12-speed, and SRAM AXS road and eTap 12-speed drivetrains

This cassette fits SRAM XD freehubs natively and can be used with SRAM XDR freehubs with the included 1.8mm spacer. SRAM's official maximum for these derailleurs is a 46-tooth cog with the stock cage. Garbaruk lists its Rear Derailleur Cage for SRAM XPLR 13-Speed, sold separately, as required on the RED XPLR derailleur for this cassette and optional on the Force XPLR and Rival XPLR derailleurs. Using the stock cage and pulleys on the Force XPLR or Rival XPLR derailleur requires installing the included pulley bearing cover and removing the cage's plastic cover. Results with that setup have been mixed. Hammer & Howl recommends using the Garbaruk Rear Derailleur Cage for SRAM XPLR 13-Speed on all three derailleurs to ensure compatibility and full 10-52T capacity.

Questions

Can I replace the aluminum largest cog?

Yes. Garbaruk makes the aluminum largest cog replaceable, so you can renew or recolor it instead of replacing the whole cassette. Replacement cogs are available only from Garbaruk directly, not from dealers, so contact Garbaruk to order one.

How does this compare with SRAM's RED XPLR cassette?

SRAM's RED XPLR cassette (CS-XG-1391-E1) is 13-speed and tops out at a 46-tooth largest cog, a 460% gear range. Garbaruk's 10-52T gives a wider 520% gear range and an easier climbing gear, with chromoly steel cogs and a color anodized aluminum largest cog.

What is the difference between Garbaruk's regular cassettes and the new Gen 2.0 cassettes?

Both use the same hardened steel construction with an aluminum largest cog. The Gen 2.0 updates the shift ramps and tooth shaping for quicker, more consistent shifts under load, lower drivetrain noise, better chain hold when backpedaling, and faster mud clearance. The gains show up most under high torque and on e-bikes. The earlier Garbaruk cassettes shift well too, so either is a strong choice.
