The Ingrid RD1 MK2 is a mechanical rear derailleur, machined in Italy from 7075-T6 aluminum with high-strength PA12 polymer parts. One derailleur body serves almost every modern mechanical drivetrain through interchangeable interfaces, called fins, and you choose the version configured for your shifter. Fitting the derailleur and changing a fin are jobs for a professional bike mechanic. It comes in a short cage for cassettes up to 46 teeth and a long cage for cassettes up to 52 teeth. Hammer & Howl stocks the long cage for its wider range, with the R11SH fin for Shimano 11-speed and the M12SR fin for SRAM 12-speed. It bolts to your frame's derailleur hanger, whether that is a UDH hanger or a standard hanger. It is made in a variety of color anodized finishes and in a hard anodized finish. Hammer & Howl stocks the Hard Anodized color because hard anodizing makes it the most durable.

The RD1 MK2 fits by two things: the fin and the cage. The fin is a small interface that sets the cable pull for your shifter. A variety of fins lets one derailleur work with Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo, or Ingrid shifters, and you select the version configured for your groupset. Changing to a different fin or cage is work for a professional bike mechanic, and we would not advise otherwise. The cage sets the largest cog it can reach: the short cage handles a cassette up to 46 teeth, and the long cage handles up to 52 teeth. Hammer & Howl stocks the long cage with the R11SH fin for Shimano 11-speed and the M12SR fin for SRAM 12-speed. It covers the widest range on one derailleur, from a 44-tooth cassette up to a 52-tooth, and that flexibility is worth a small trade on the smaller cassettes. On a cassette like an 11-44T the long cage is fully functional, but it is slightly over-caged: it carries a little more chain, so you may notice a bit more chain slap, marginally less crisp shifting, and slightly less ground clearance. A short cage is the tighter, more cage-optimal match for a cassette up to 46 teeth, and we can order one in. For a 10-44T or 10-46T cassette, the short cage is the optimal match, but long cage will also work. For a 10-48T or 10-52T cassette, the long cage is the only match.

Questions

Does it work with electronic shifting like AXS or Di2?

No. The RD1 MK2 is a mechanical derailleur: it is pulled by a cable, not a motor. It does not work with SRAM AXS, SRAM Eagle Transmission, or Shimano Di2. It is made for mechanical shifters, and you match it to yours with the fin.

What is the fin, and which one do I need?

The fin is a small, interchangeable interface on the derailleur that sets the cable pull to match your shifter. A variety of fins lets one RD1 body work with Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo, or Ingrid shifters, so you select the version configured for your groupset. Choose the version that matches your shifter brand and speed: R11SH for Shimano 11-speed; R12SH for Shimano 12-speed; M12SH for Shimano MTB 12-speed; R11SR for SRAM 11-speed mechanical; M12SR for SRAM 12-speed mechanical; R12CP for Campagnolo 12-speed; R12EK for Campagnolo Ekar; and INGRID 11s or INGRID 12s for Ingrid's own TTS shifters. The Ekar fin is the one exception to matching by speed: it takes a 13-speed Ekar shifter with no modification, but the derailleur is locked at the 12th sprocket, so you get 12 speeds rather than 13. Campagnolo cassettes and chains do not work with the RD1 with any fin, so a Campagnolo or Ekar setup uses a Shimano, SRAM, or Ingrid cassette. Which cage length should I choose, and which does Hammer & Howl stock?

Match the cage to your largest cog: the short cage reaches a cassette up to 46 teeth, and the long cage reaches up to 52 teeth. Hammer & Howl stocks the long cage with the R11SH fin for Shimano 11-speed and the M12SR fin for SRAM 12-speed, so those two ship now. It is the stocked choice because one derailleur then covers the widest range, from a 44-tooth cassette up to a 52-tooth, allowing you to swap wheels and cassette sizes without being limited by your derailleur cage, and that flexibility is worth a small trade in feel on the smaller cassettes in our view. On an 11-44T a long cage is fully functional, though a short cage is the more cage-optimal match: a short cage holds the chain a little more taut, so it runs quieter, shifts a touch crisper, and sits slightly higher for a bit more ground clearance, while a long cage carries a little more chain and can slap a bit more. If you would rather have the short cage for an 11-44T, it is listed on this page and we are happy to order it for you.

Will it fit a UDH frame?

Yes. The RD1 MK2 is a hanger-mounted derailleur: it bolts to your frame's derailleur hanger. On a UDH frame that is the UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger); on other frames it is your frame's standard hanger. It is not a direct-mount unit, so it works with either. Set it up to your frame maker's instructions.

Can I get spare parts for it?

Yes. Ingrid makes the RD1's parts available as spares, including the cage, pulleys, and fins, so a worn or damaged part can be replaced instead of the whole derailleur. Ingrid intends this work for a trained bike mechanic, so it is best fitted by your bike shop. That is part of why an Ingrid derailleur is built to be kept and serviced.
