Overview

The Garbaruk 12-Speed Cassette is a wide-range cassette for SRAM XD freehubs. It can be used on XDR freehubs with the use of Garbaruk's 1.8mm spacer. Garbaruk's cassettes are machined from chromoly steel for durability with the largest cog machined from 7075-T651 aluminum, then color anodized for a beautiful finish. This cassette is available in three cog ranges: 10-48T, 10-50T, or 10-52T. Each pairs a 10-tooth high gear with a 48, 50, or 52-tooth large cog for aggressive climbing. On a single-chainring (1x) drivetrain, the close steps in the high gears help to smoothen cadence, while the largest cog is a lifesaver for steep climbs. Weight starts at 340g for the 10-48T, making this cassette an excellent balance of wide range, durability, and light weight.

Why we love it

We love Garbaruk cassettes because they strike a great balance between light weight, durability, beauty, and price.

  • 01The CNC machined chromoly steel cogs provide the durability of steel while being lighter than stamped cogs.
  • 02The color anodized 7075-T651 aluminum alloy big cog reduces weight and adds a gorgeous luster to the drivetrain.
  • 03The range is wide. Whether you opt for the 10-48 or the 10-52, Garbaruk's famed extended range enables riders to tackle a wider variety of terrain with comfort.
Why it makes the cut. Hammer & Howl only carries parts we believe are among the best in the business. We believe Garbaruk cassettes are a great value among high end cassettes.

Confirm before ordering

If you are not sure which freehub or derailleur your bike has, confirm with your bike mechanic or contact Hammer & Howl before ordering.

This cassette fits SRAM XD freehubs natively and can be used with SRAM XDR freehubs with the Garbaruk Cassette Spacer, a 1.8mm spacer sold separately. The 10-48T and 10-50T fit every derailleur listed above. The 10-52T fits the Eagle AXS derailleurs and the second-generation mechanical derailleurs, marked B2 in the model number. The first-generation mechanical derailleurs, marked B1, support cogs up to 50 teeth. To use this 10-52T cassette with one of those, add the Garbaruk Rear Derailleur Cage for SRAM 11/12-Speed, sold separately.

Questions

How do I tell an XD freehub from an XDR freehub?

There are a few different ways to tell. Many freehubs have "XD" or "XDR" printed or laser etched on the freehub, so look there first. If yours is not marked, XDR is the road version, found on road and gravel wheels, while XD is found on mountain bike wheels. Your wheel or hub maker's specification sheet should list which one you have. If you have both freehubs on hand, the XDR is about 1.85mm longer than the XD. This cassette is made for the XD freehub, and adding the Garbaruk Cassette Spacer lets you use it on an XDR freehub.

Which cog range should I choose?

Pick by how you ride. The 10-48T is the lightest and keeps the tightest jumps between gears. The 10-52T gives the easiest climbing gear for steep terrain, with the 10-50T in between.

How does this compare with SRAM's 12-speed cassette?

SRAM's closest 12-speed XD cassette is the Eagle XG-1295 (CS-XG-1295-B1), which comes in a single 10-52T. This Garbaruk cassette covers the same wide 10-52T cog range and adds choices SRAM does not. You pick the 10-48T, 10-50T, or 10-52T to match your riding, and you choose the largest cog in one of eight anodized colors.

Can I replace the aluminum largest cog?

Yes. Garbaruk makes the aluminum largest cog replaceable, so you can renew or recolor it instead of replacing the whole cassette. Replacement cogs are available only from Garbaruk directly, not from dealers, so contact Garbaruk to order one.
