Why we love it
We love that this chain gives you a fresh, race-ready drivetrain straight out of the box, with none of the mess of waxing a chain yourself.
- 01It arrives stripped, cleaned and hot-melt waxed, so you install it and ride, with no degreasing.
- 02The chain is SRAM's own XX1 Eagle chain, and SILCA's work is the wax on it, not the chain itself.
- 03The colored PVD coating, in a Rainbow oil-slick or Gold, adds a distinctive color to your drivetrain.

Confirm before ordering
Eagle is SRAM's 12-speed mountain-bike drivetrain, the one with a rear derailleur on a hanger, and underneath the wax this is its standard chain.
The names are easy to confuse: X01 and XX1 Eagle are not X0 and XX Transmission, GX Eagle is not GX Eagle Transmission, and Eagle S100, S200 and S500 are not S1000 Eagle Transmission.
Questions
Which drivetrains does it fit?
It fits SRAM Eagle 12-speed drivetrains that use a rear derailleur on a hanger, including NX, GX, X01, XX1 and SX Eagle, Eagle S100, S200 and S500, and non-Transmission Eagle AXS. It does not fit Eagle Transmission, the direct-mount type without a hanger, which uses a Flattop Eagle Transmission chain. The SILCA chain for an Eagle Transmission drivetrain is the SILCA Pre-Waxed Race Chain for SRAM XX Eagle SL Transmission.
Which finishes does it come in?
Two: a Rainbow oil-slick, and Gold. The color is a PVD coating over the steel, not paint and not anodizing. It is a thin, hard coating applied over the chain's plating. The Rainbow shifts color with the light. Both are the same SRAM XX1 Eagle chain, waxed the same way, so choose the finish you like.
Can I use it on an e-bike or e-MTB?
Yes. Underneath the wax this is SRAM's XX1 Eagle chain, and that chain is e-bike approved. It suits an Eagle e-MTB as well as a regular mountain bike. An e-bike can wear a chain faster, so check it for wear more often and replace it when it reaches the wear limit.
What does pre-waxed mean?
SILCA strips the factory grease off this genuine SRAM XX1 Eagle chain, ultrasonically cleans it, then hot-melt waxes it with SILCA Secret Chain Blend. It reaches you ready to install.
Do I need to clean or degrease it first?
No. Degreasing would remove the wax that lubricates the chain. Fit it exactly as it comes.
How long does the wax last, and how do I look after it?
The factory wax lasts 800 to 1,000 miles, but only if you top it up along the way. Plan on no more than that. Look after it in three steps. After every ride, wipe the chain down. Every 100 miles, top the wax up with a wax-based drip coating, and let it dry before you ride. Every 800 to 1,000 miles, strip the old wax off in boiling water and re-wax the chain. Re-wax sooner after wet, muddy or gritty riding, or if the chain feels or sounds dry. Hammer & Howl carries MSPEEDWAX Hot-Melt Chain Wax for the re-wax.
Does it come with a quick link?
Yes. One SRAM Eagle PowerLock connector is in the box. The PowerLock is single-use, so keep a fresh one on hand if you take the chain off again.
