The Garbaruk 12-Speed MTB Cassette is a wide-range cassette for Shimano HG freehubs. Garbaruk's cassettes are machined from chromoly steel for durability with the largest cog machined from 7075-T651 aluminum, then color anodized for a beautiful finish. This cassette is made in a single 11-52T cog range, pairing an 11-tooth high gear with a 52-tooth largest cog for aggressive climbing. On a single-chainring (1x) drivetrain, the close steps in the high gears help to smoothen cadence, while the largest cog is a lifesaver for steep climbs. At 344g, this cassette strikes an excellent balance of wide range, durability, and light weight.

Questions

Which freehub do I need?

A Shimano HG freehub. This cassette does not fit SRAM XD or XDR freehubs, or Shimano Micro Spline freehubs.

Will this work with my Shimano 12-speed derailleur?

Only with the Garbaruk cage. The 52-tooth largest cog is above Shimano's official 51-tooth maximum for its 12-speed mountain derailleurs, so a stock Deore, SLX, XT, or XTR derailleur is not supported. Fitting the Garbaruk Rear Derailleur Cage for Shimano 12-Speed MTB / GRX 12-Speed lets the derailleur reach the 52-tooth cog. This cassette is not compatible with Shimano GRX 822 rear derailleurs.

Do I need to buy a lockring?

No. A color-matched Shimano HG lockring is in the box. The separate Garbaruk Cassette Lockring for Shimano HG is a spare, or a way to change the color.

Can I replace the aluminum largest cog?

Yes. Garbaruk makes the aluminum largest cog replaceable, so you can renew or recolor it instead of replacing the whole cassette. Replacement cogs are available only from Garbaruk directly, not from dealers, so contact Garbaruk to order one.

How does this compare with Shimano's 12-speed cassette?

Shimano's 12-speed mountain cassettes stop at a 51-tooth largest cog. This Garbaruk cassette reaches 52 teeth for an easier climbing gear, and you choose the largest cog in one of eight anodized colors.
