Overview

The Carbon-Ti X-Cap Titanium is a superlight headset top cap machined from Grade 5 titanium. It is CNC machined and laser etched, in a natural titanium finish, and comes with its own color anodized Al7075 Torx bolt. It fits most 1 1/8 inch steerers.

Not included: A star nut or expander plug. The cap's bolt threads into the star nut or expander plug in your steerer. Most bikes already have one; if yours does not, add one before fitting the cap.

  • Bikes with a threadless headset and a 1 1/8 inch steerer (the standard size)
  • Carbon, aluminum, or steel steerers, with a star nut or expander plug already fitted

Not compatible with

  • 1 1/4 inch (oversize) steerers, which take the oversize carbon cap
  • Threaded headsets, which use a locknut instead of a top cap
  • Steerers without a star nut or expander plug fitted (add one first)

Confirm before ordering

Check that your steerer is 1 1/8 inch and that a star nut or expander plug is fitted. If you are not sure, confirm with your bike mechanic or contact Hammer & Howl before ordering.

The titanium cap fits most 1 1/8 inch steerers, which is what most road, gravel, and mountain bikes use. It sits on top of the steerer and is held by its own bolt, which threads into the star nut or expander plug already in your fork. It replaces just the top cap, so you do not change your headset. For a 1 1/4 inch steerer, choose the oversize carbon cap instead.

What is the difference between the titanium and carbon X-Cap?

The titanium cap is natural laser-etched titanium and weighs 8 grams; the carbon cap is a carbon weave at about 5 grams. On both, the color you pick is the bolt, which is color anodized. Both fit a 1 1/8 inch steerer. Choose titanium for a metal cap, carbon for the lowest weight.

What steerer size does it fit?

It fits most 1 1/8 inch steerers, the standard size on most road, gravel, and mountain bikes. For a 1 1/4 inch steerer, choose the oversize carbon cap.

Does it come with a bolt?

Yes. Each cap comes with its color anodized Al7075 Torx bolt, so there is nothing else to buy except a star nut or expander plug if your fork does not already have one.
