Overview

The Carbon-Ti X-Cap Carbon Matte Stem Cap is a headset top cap for a threadless steerer. It is machined from carbon fiber in Italy, with a matte finish.

It is made in two sizes. The standard cap fits most 1 1/8 inch steerers, and the Over Sized cap fits most 1 1/4 inch steerers. Select the size that matches your steerer.

It comes with an AL7075-T6 TORX bolt. The color you select is the bolt's color. The cap itself is matte carbon in every option.

The standard cap and bolt weigh 5.2 g. The Over Sized pair weigh 5.5 g.

Not included: A star nut or an expander plug, and a TORX T25 wrench. A top cap needs a star nut or an expander plug already fitted in the steerer for the bolt to pull against. The matching expander plugs are the Carbon-Ti X-Plug for a 1 1/8 inch steerer and the Carbon-Ti X-Plug OS for a 1 1/4 inch steerer.

Two things decide fit: the steerer diameter and what is already inside the steerer.

Select the standard cap for a 1 1/8 inch steerer and the Over Sized cap for a 1 1/4 inch steerer. The steerer needs a star nut or an expander plug fitted, because that is what the top cap bolt pulls against to set your headset preload.

Which size do I need?

Match the cap to your steerer. The standard cap is for a 1 1/8 inch steerer, which is the common size. The Over Sized cap is for a 1 1/4 inch steerer.

Which part does the color apply to?

The bolt. The cap is matte carbon in every option, and the AL7075-T6 bolt that comes with it is color anodized in the color you select.

Do I need anything else to fit it?

Your steerer needs a star nut or an expander plug already in it. If yours has neither, the Carbon-Ti X-Plug suits a 1 1/8 inch steerer and the Carbon-Ti X-Plug OS suits a 1 1/4 inch steerer.

Is there a gloss version?

Yes. The Carbon-Ti X-Cap Carbon Gloss Stem Cap is the same cap with a gloss finish, in the 1 1/8 inch size.

What tool do I need?

A TORX T25 wrench, which is a standard shop tool. Tighten to your frame maker's top cap figure, because this bolt sets your headset preload.

Can I buy the bolt on its own?

Yes. The Carbon-Ti X-Cap TORX Spare Bolt is the same bolt, sold as a spare or in a different color.
