Overview

The Carbon-Ti X-Lock EVO 12x1.0 (174 mm) Rear Thru-Axle is a bolt-on rear thru-axle, machined from 7075-T6 aluminum alloy in Italy. It is made for frames built to the 12x148 Boost standard.

It is 174 mm long, with an M12x1.0 thread and a 15 mm threaded section. It is tightened with a 6 mm hex key. It weighs 31 g. It is color anodized, in the color you select.

Why we love it

We love an upgrade that disappears into the bike and just works, ride after ride.

  • 01At 31 g it is machined with a variable wall thickness, trimming weight while keeping the rear triangle stiff under power.
  • 02The color anodized finish and laser etched graphics hold up to season after season of wheel changes.
Why it makes the cut. Hammer & Howl only carries parts we believe are among the best in the business. This axle is a well-made detail for a modern Boost cross-country frame.

Confirm before ordering

If you are not sure of your frame's axle length or thread pitch, measure the axle already in the bike.

You can also ask your bike mechanic, or contact Hammer & Howl before ordering.

Three things decide fit: the length, the thread pitch and the axle diameter. This axle is 174 mm long, M12x1.0, and 12 mm across, with a 15 mm threaded section.

Newer model years and other frames may also fit. Measure the axle your bike came with, or check your frame maker's axle specification.

Questions

How do I know this is the right axle for my bike?

Three measurements have to match: the total length (174 mm), the thread pitch (M12x1.0) and the axle diameter (12 mm). The easiest check is to measure the axle already in your bike.

What does the thread pitch mean?

M12x1.0 means a 12 mm axle with 1.0 mm between threads. An axle with a different pitch will not thread into your frame, even if the length is right.

What tool do I need?

A 6 mm hex key. It is a standard tool and is not in the box.

Does this go in the front or the rear?

The rear. It is a rear thru-axle, and a front axle is a different length and often a different thread.

My bike is not on the list. Will it still fit?

It may. The list names the frames Hammer & Howl has confirmed. Newer model years and other frames built to the same axle specification also take it, so check your frame maker's axle specification or measure the axle you have.

How much does it weigh?

31 g.
