Overview

The Carbon-Ti X-Clamp 3 Seatpost Clamp is an external, bolt-type seatpost clamp. The body is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum alloy in Italy and closed with a Grade 5 titanium bolt.

It is made in five diameters: 30.0 mm, 31.8 mm, 32.6 mm, 34.9 mm and 36.4 mm. Select the one that matches your frame's seat collar, not your seatpost.

The body is color anodized in the color you select, or polished if you choose Mirror Polished. Weights run from 9.4 g for the 30.0 mm clamp to 10.8 g for the 36.4 mm.

Why we love it

We love how much weight this tiny part saves, and how good it looks doing it.

  • 01The body is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and closed with a titanium bolt, so it is light and holds your seatpost without fuss.
  • 02It is color anodized in eight colors, with a Mirror Polished option on four of the five sizes, so you can match or accent your frame down to the seat collar.
  • 03Five diameters cover almost any modern frame, so you can drop the weight of a heavy stock clamp without changing anything else.
Why it makes the cut. Hammer & Howl only carries parts we believe are among the best in the business. It is the kind of small upgrade that finishes a build.

What's included

  • One Carbon-Ti X-Clamp 3 Seatpost Clamp with its Grade 5 titanium bolt (in the size and color you select)

Not included: A seatpost, and any tool. A seatpost clamp is tightened to the torque figure your frame maker publishes, so a torque wrench is the way to hit it.

Will it fit your bike?

Compatible with

  • Frames with a round seat tube measuring 30.0 mm, 31.8 mm, 32.6 mm, 34.9 mm or 36.4 mm across the outside at the collar
  • Frames specified at a 29.8 mm collar, which take the 30.0 mm clamp
  • Frames specified at a 32.0 mm collar, which take the 31.8 mm clamp
  • Frames specified at a 32.8 mm collar, which take the 32.6 mm clamp
  • Frames specified at a 35.0 mm collar, which take the 34.9 mm clamp
  • Frames specified at a 36.2 mm collar, which take the 36.4 mm clamp
  • Road, gravel and mountain frames alike, and any seatpost diameter that your frame already takes

Not compatible with

  • Frames with an integrated or wedge seat clamp built into the frame
  • Frames with a 33.1 mm seat collar, which falls between the 32.6 mm and 34.9 mm sizes
  • Seat tubes that are not round at the collar

Confirm before ordering

If you are not sure, measure the outside diameter of your frame's seat tube at the collar with a caliper.

You can also ask your bike mechanic, or contact Hammer & Howl before ordering.

One measurement decides fit: the outside diameter of your frame's seat tube at the collar.

Measure the seat tube, not the seatpost. A 27.2 mm seatpost sits inside seat tubes of several different outside diameters, so the post size does not tell you the clamp size.

If your frame maker publishes a seat clamp size, that figure is the one to use.

Questions

Which size do I need?

Measure the outside diameter of your frame's seat tube at the collar. The clamp is made in 30.0 mm, 31.8 mm, 32.6 mm, 34.9 mm and 36.4 mm.

Why not measure my seatpost?

Because the seatpost sits inside the frame, not around it. A 27.2 mm seatpost is used in seat tubes of several different outside diameters, so it does not tell you the clamp size.

My frame is listed at 29.8 mm. Which clamp is that?

The 30.0 mm. Frame makers often publish a collar figure a fraction under the clamp size, and 29.8 mm frames take the 30.0 mm clamp. A 32.0 mm frame takes the 31.8 mm clamp on the same reasoning.

What is in the box?

One clamp with its Grade 5 titanium bolt, in the size and color you select. A seatpost is not included.

Does the color cover the whole clamp?

The body carries the finish you select: color anodized in one of eight colors, or Mirror Polished. The bolt is titanium and carries no color.

Which sizes come in Mirror Polished?

The 30.0 mm, 31.8 mm, 34.9 mm and 36.4 mm. The 32.6 mm is color anodized only, in the eight colors. Mirror Polished is a polished finish rather than a color, and the clamp is the same in every other respect.

How tight should it be?

Use the torque figure your frame maker publishes for the seat clamp. A seat tube can be over-tightened, and a carbon frame or post is the least forgiving, so a torque wrench is worth using.
